Clockwork has performed at hundreds of events since 1990, creating memorable wedding receptions all over New England.
Each event is special, and your wedding reception will be given the care and attention it deserves to make it a once-in-a-lifetime event!

We are a seven-piece band featuring two dynamic, exciting lead vocalists: Larry and Mary. Saxophone, keyboards, guitar, drums, and bass round out the lineup. Three of the instrumentalists sing lead vocals, too, giving us the musical luxury of variety and versatility, and allowing us to perform music spanning as many genres as it does decades. See our Song List: Swing, top40, 50’s rock-and-roll, Motown, R&B, 70’s disco, reggae: you name it, and we can play it!

The talented members of the band have performed with the likes of Aretha Franklin, The Four Tops, Natalie Cole, Lou Rawls, and The Temptations, been recognized by Billboard Magazine, and released numerous recordings.

Want a bigger band? We also perform as an eight- or nine-piece, with the addition of a horn section (trumpet and trombone).

Our philosophy about playing weddings is simple: it’s your day. We will go completely by your rules, or you can leave everything up to our expertise; it’s up to you. Want us to stick to a list of songs or musical styles that you provide? Want us to not play the chicken dance no matter how much your Aunt Doris requests it? Want your brother to play guitar with the band, or have Uncle Fred sing “New York, New York”? None of this is a problem; we are completely accommodating to any requests you may have of us.

“How do I choose a band for my wedding?”

Having performed over 500 weddings with Clockwork, and at least 500 more in previous bands, I have come to realize the main qualities that brides-to-be look for in hiring a band.

Musical Proficiency:
Obviously, the band has to sound good! A band with good singers and accomplished musicians is a good start to creating a reception that everyone will rave about. But that’s not all . . .

A Band with “Heart”:
The band members have to enjoy what they’re doing, rather than just “going through the motions” at another gig! A band whose musicians are close friends, and are the kinds of friends that you’d like to invite to your wedding, is a step closer to choosing the right band. You’re getting closer . . .

The Band Leader:
You have to feel comfortable on a personal level with the band leader. This is the person that you will be working with for a year (or longer) from the time you book the band until your reception. Qualities like integrity, honesty, punctuality, and professionalism are a must for the person you are relying on to “run the show” and orchestrate your once-in-a-lifetime event.

So how do you find a band with all of these qualities? Fortunately, you already have!

Listen to our CD: this will give you a good idea of our musicianship and vocal quality.

Finally, I encourage you to pick up the phone and call me, or to set up a face-to-face meeting. In this web-based world, nothing compares to good old-fashioned communication!

Sincerely,

Ron Barth

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

What if you don’t know our first dance song?
We will learn it! Or we can play the CD of the actual artist for you to dance to.

How many hours does Clockwork perform for?
As many as you like! Most wedding receptions are 5 hours long: 1 hour for cocktails, and 4 hours for the reception. Most often the band is hired as follows: Solo piano (Ron) for the first hour, followed by 4 hours of the seven-piece band.

How many breaks do you take?
During a 4-hour reception, we take two breaks. The first is during dinner when the main course is being served. After dinner we play two dance sets (each is usually an hour or longer in length) with only one break in between the two.

Is music played during breaks?
Yes, CDs are played during breaks. The break music is either “background” music (giving the guests a chance to sit down and catch their breath!), or upbeat music to continue the dancing right through the break! Some brides/grooms even custom burn a CD of their favorite music for us to play during breaks.

Do you play more than one event per day?
Some bands perform “doubles”, rushing from an afternoon reception to an evening one on any given Saturday. By contrast, we perform only one event each day, thereby giving each event our undivided attention. Furthermore, you will never be charged a penalty or extra stipend if your reception happens to be during “crossover” times (from late afternoon into early evening).

How do you keep people dancing for four hours?
Getting your guests to the dance floor and keeping them there is our number one goal; isn’t that why you hire a band in the first place? Having performed at so many weddings in the past, I have a good sense as to which songs pick to get people on the dance floor. Once the dancing has started, I string songs together into medleys (so there’s not that awkward “dead air” in between songs), gradually building the energy from one song to the next.
